Sergeant Benton’s issued military pistol functions as the tool of his attempted arrest. He draws it visibly and commands the suspects to halt, asserting authority with the weapon. The Master counters Benton’s confidence with a single, fluid motion: disarming him by redirecting and seizing the pistol, then sending it clattering to the floor before Benton is knocked unconscious against the filing cabinet.

The steel filing cabinet sits against the laboratory wall, bearing institutional scars from years of use. During the struggle, Benton is forcefully thrown backward by the Master’s takedown, his head striking the cabinet’s corner with a solid, muffled impact. The cabinet serves as an unintentional, inanimate instrument of Benton’s unconsciousness, leaving a bent drawer ajar in silent witness to the violence.

The TOM-TIT apparatus stands central in the lab with its Crystal of Kronos pulsing erratically. While Benton confronts the Master nearby, the apparatus awaits restart after having been briefly idle. Once Benton is subdued, the Master immediately approaches and begins operating TOM-TIT’s controls, using it as the device to summon reinforcing power and restart the temporal sequence that will harness Kronos.

The narrow roof platform outside the lab’s east-side window functions as Benton’s covert ingress point. From the gravel-strewn surface littered with pigeon droppings, Benton slips through the open sash window into the lab, bypassing ground-level security the Master has disabled. His ascent via the slick metal ladder and entry through the window mark the transition from external observer to direct participant in the unfolding crisis.

The Newton Institute Laboratory’s main testing area forms the battleground of this event. Beneath the sterile fluorescents and amidst the hum of overworked machinery, Benton executes a covert entry and confronts the Master across a floor strewn with oscilloscopes and coiled cables. The lab’s tense atmosphere amplifies the immediacy of the confrontation, its machinery frozen in tense anticipation as Benton’s defiance collapses under the Master’s practiced reprisal.

UNIT’s institutional authority looms in the background as Benton, a UNIT non-commissioned officer, acts to uphold military protocol within the Newton Institute’s laboratory. While command protocols and lines of authority are invoked by Benton, the organization itself is absent in person, its influence felt indirectly through Benton’s deference to hierarchy and the Brigadier’s procedural expectations.
