Fungoids are clusters of living, light-sensitive fungal organisms native to the jungles of Mechanus. They act as ambush predators, targeting isolated travelers by surrounding them in darkness and retreating or collapsing under light exposure. Their behavior forces intruders to exploit illumination for survival, heightening the jungle's perils alongside threats from Daleks, robotic sentinels, and artificial paths. Observed by characters like Ian Chesterton and Vicki, their predatory tactics disrupt escapes and compel travelers to seek lit areas for safety.
