Dangerous Journey

Shrunk to an inch tall, the Doctor and his companions must evade giant humans, insects, and household hazards while trapped in a twentieth-century garden after accidentally stumbling upon a deadly insecticide plot.

The Doctor, along with his companions Ian, Barbara, and Susan, find themselves reduced to minuscule size and stranded in a seemingly ordinary twentieth-century garden. Their immediate challenge is survival against commonplace threats now magnified to enormous proportions: a domestic cat becomes a fearsome predator, and everyday garden paths turn into treacherous landscapes.

The group quickly becomes separated. Ian and Barbara find refuge inside a briefcase inadvertently carried into a nearby laboratory by two men, while the Doctor and Susan seek safety in a drainpipe. Inside the briefcase, Ian and Barbara overhear snippets of a conversation revealing a sinister plot involving a scientist, Smithers, and his accomplice, Forrester. They deduce that a man named Farrow, who created a formula called DN6 was murdered to suppress a report about the dangerous side effects of a new insecticide.

Navigating the treacherous terrain of the laboratory, now a colossal landscape, Ian and Barbara search for a way to communicate with the Doctor and Susan, find a way back to their normal size and escape. A sequence of near misses follows - like Barbara fainting at the sight of a fly and, in their diminished state, the pair find themselves in even greater danger when exposed to the very insecticide which is the centre of the plot.

Meanwhile, the Doctor and Susan discover a way to communicate with Ian and Barbara through a sink which acts as a sound chamber, amplifying the minuscule travellers' voices. Reunited, they decide their best chance for escape is to climb down the sink's plug chain. Forrester and Smithers return to the laboratory and are narrowly avoided by the group who have climbed into the sink to drop down the plug chain and make their escape down the drain.

As Smithers and Forrester continue to cover up their crime, the Doctor and his companions must work together, despite their size, to expose the truth about the insecticide and find a way to return to their normal size, ensuring their safe return to the TARDIS and continuing their adventures through time and space.

Act 1

The Doctor, Ian, Barbara, and Susan, still reduced to an inch in height, face immediate and overwhelming peril in a giant garden. They narrowly evade a colossal domestic cat, then a massive human foot, which forces their separation. Ian and Barbara find an unexpected refuge inside a briefcase, inadvertently carried into a nearby laboratory. There, they become unwilling witnesses to a chilling conversation between two men, Smithers and Forrester. They overhear the details of Farrow's murder, a scientist who developed a dangerous insecticide called DN6, and the conspirators' plan to suppress his report on its lethal side effects. Simultaneously, the Doctor and Susan seek safety within a drainpipe, from where they observe Smithers and Forrester moving Farrow's body, confirming the presence of murderers. This initial struggle for survival against their magnified environment rapidly escalates into an understanding of a human-driven criminal conspiracy, establishing a dual layer of threat: the environmental dangers of their miniature state and the sinister intentions of the giant humans. The realization that their potential saviors are, in fact, dangerous criminals profoundly shifts their immediate objective from merely surviving to understanding and potentially exposing the giant world's deadly secrets.

Act 2

Stranded on the immense laboratory bench, Ian and Barbara meticulously explore their surroundings, identifying it as an experimental site for the lethal DN6 insecticide. Their suspicions are grimly confirmed when a giant fly, after landing on treated seeds, dies instantly, its legs glistening with the deadly chemical. This observation underscores the extreme danger of their environment. They formulate a desperate escape plan, intending to construct a makeshift ladder from giant paperclips found within the briefcase, aiming to descend to ground level. Concurrently, the Doctor and Susan navigate the treacherous interior of a drainpipe, eventually reaching the vast, echoing basin of a sink. The Doctor, ever the scientist, quickly deduces that the sink's structure acts as an echo chamber, significantly amplifying their minuscule voices. Susan seizes this opportunity, calling out, and her voice, now audible, reaches Ian and Barbara. This breakthrough in communication bridges the physical and communicative chasm between the separated pairs, shifting their immediate focus from individual survival and isolated planning to a coordinated effort for reunion and collective escape from the perilous laboratory.

Act 3

With communication miraculously re-established, the Doctor and Susan instruct Ian and Barbara to descend the sink's massive plug chain, initiating a perilous reunion attempt. As Ian and Barbara begin their arduous climb down, a sudden and critical turn of events unfolds: Smithers and Forrester unexpectedly return to the laboratory, intent on cleaning up the lingering evidence of Farrow's murder. The Doctor, with his keen senses, detects their presence, triggering a frantic, narrow escape for the miniaturized travelers. The Doctor and Susan are forced to quickly retreat back down the drainpipe, while Ian and Barbara must accelerate their descent, clinging precariously to the plug chain. In a move that further heightens the tension and seals off a crucial escape route, Smithers firmly plugs the sink, unknowingly trapping the companions or making their egress significantly more challenging. The giant humans then continue their discussion about Farrow's suppressed report and the astonishing efficacy of the DN6 insecticide, reinforcing the high stakes of the conspiracy and the immediate danger surrounding the tiny adventurers. The act concludes with the companions once again in extreme peril, surrounded by their giant, murderous adversaries and their deadly chemicals, their path to safety now further obstructed.
