The Bomb
When the Monoids abandon the Ark spaceship to colonize Refusis, Steven, Venussa, and the Doctor must find and disarm a hidden bomb before it destroys the ship, all while navigating the Monoids' internal power struggles.
The episode begins with the Monoids, led by One, preparing to abandon the Ark and colonize the planet Refusis. They are unaware that Monoid Two's initial reconnaissance team was destroyed. Monoid Four expresses doubts about One's leadership, foreshadowing conflict. Meanwhile, on Refusis, the Doctor and Dodo learn about the Monoids' impending arrival from the Refusians, a peaceful race. They discuss the intolerant and selfish tendencies that led to the Guardians' (humans) conquest by the Monoids. The Refusians grant the remaining Guardians a day to resist before defensive measures are considered.
Inside the Ark's kitchen, Steven, Venussa, and Dassuk are trapped. They observe the Monoids' preparations and resolve to escape and find a way to help. Steven plans to manipulate Maharis, a Guardian subject, to aid their escape. The Monoids are shown loading trays containing miniaturized Monoids into launchers, intending to populate Refusis. They reveal their deceptive plan to leave the subject Guardians behind and their intention to destroy the Ark with a timed bomb.
Steven, Venussa, and Dassuk escape and search for the bomb. On Refusis, Monoid Four voices his concerns about One's leadership and the dangers of the planet. One dismisses these concerns and gives the order for the main landing. The Doctor and Dodo, who are on Refusis, learn about the Ark's impending destruction and resolve to help. Steven and his group realize the Monoids have left and begin their search for the bomb on the Ark.
The Monoids land on Refusis and discover the remains of the first lander, confirming the dangers of the planet. One vows revenge on those responsible. Monoid Four plans to challenge One's leadership and return to the Ark to deal with the bomb. The Doctor and Dodo use an empty capsule to return to the Ark. Back on the Ark, Steven contacts the Doctor, who informs him about the bomb. The Doctor sends launchers back to the Ark to aid in the search. The Doctor and Dodo encounter the Monoids on Refusis, with the Doctor being taken captive. Monoid Four challenges One's authority, leading to a division among the Monoids. One attempts to kill those who oppose him.
Steven rallies the remaining Guardians to search for the bomb, while the Doctor is held captive by the Monoids. The Monoids are still fighting among themselves. Steven discovers the bomb is hidden inside a large statue and devises a plan to move it. Dassuk returns to Refusis and is updated . The Doctor, Dodo, and Dassuk try to warn the Ark. Steven and Venussa work together to move the statue. Outside, One kills 6 and shoots 77; Four and the remaining Monoids find cover as a capsule lands. Maharis, looking for favor with One, is killed. The Doctor manages to contact Steven and inform him of the bomb's location. After some of the Refusis Monoids are killed, the Doctor, Dodo, and Dassuk find Monoid 4.
With the help of It, the statue containing the bomb is moved into a launching bay and launched into space, where it explodes safely. In the aftermath, the Guardians and Refusians prepare to settle on Refusis. It is decided that peace must be made with the Monoids, and the Monoids will be transported to Refusis. Steven, the Doctor and Dodo depart, with the prospect of more adventures ahead. The Doctor fades in and out and disappears, indicating something far more serious.

The narrative opens with the Monoids on the Ark, preparing for their mass exodus to Refusis. Monoid 1 dismisses concerns about the planet's safety and Monoid 4's burgeoning doubts regarding his leadership, hinting at an underlying ruthlessness. Simultaneously, on Refusis, the Doctor and Dodo learn from the Refusians about the impending Monoid arrival and the one-day ultimatum granted to the remaining Guardians to resist. This revelation serves as the inciting incident, galvanizing Steven's group into action. They successfully escape the kitchen and immediately begin their urgent search for the hidden explosive device. As the Monoids launch their main landing party towards Refusis, the bomb's timer begins its countdown, leaving Steven and his companions racing against time in a deserted, doomed vessel.
