The Web of Fear Part 3

The Doctor, Victoria, and Jamie face the return of the Great Intelligence in the London Underground, battling its Yeti army and a spreading, mind-controlling web to save the city from being overrun, while trying to discern who among them is a traitor.

In the heart of London, the Great Intelligence resurfaces, unleashing its robotic Yeti and a treacherous web-like fungus in the city's Underground. As panic spreads, the military, led by Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart, struggles to contain the encroaching threat, now encompassing the entire Circle Line. The Doctor, along with companions Victoria and Jamie, becomes embroiled in the crisis after Victoria warns him about Professor Travers' suspicions. Reuniting with Travers and his daughter Anne, they delve into the mystery, discovering that Travers' past experiments with a Yeti control sphere inadvertently revived the Intelligence.

As the web tightens its grip, cutting off communication and stranding people, the group seeks a solution, facing not only the external threat but also the paranoia of a possible traitor within their ranks. Tensions escalate as they realize someone opened the main door, allowing the Yeti to sabotage their efforts to blow up the tunnel and seal off the base. Mistrust grows when a reporter, Chorley, learns of the TARDIS’s location from Victoria and attempts to manipulate events to escape.

With time running out and London teetering on the brink of collapse, the Doctor races against the encroaching web, using his intellect to find a way to stop the Yeti and their master. The military prepares for a desperate last stand, hoping the Doctor, Travers, and Anne can devise a countermeasure. Meanwhile, Jamie and Evans navigate the tunnels, facing their fears as they desperately attempt to rejoin the others at Goodge Street.

In a climactic confrontation, the Doctor must use his knowledge of the Intelligence and the Yeti to turn the tide, but only after uncovering the traitor in their midst and foiling Chorley's plans. The team manages to develop a jamming signal to disable the Yeti, giving them a chance to strike back. But the battle becomes more desperate when they lose communication and are being hemmed in by the ever expanding fungus. The Doctor and his friends, with the help of the military personnel and Professor Travers, find a way to disrupt the Intelligence and its army. At the last moment the Doctor, Victoria, and Jamie escape in the TARDIS, leaving the fate of London hanging in the balance.

Act 1

The narrative opens with immediate peril as Jamie and Evans navigate the London Underground tunnels, confronted by a Yeti carrying a mysterious pyramid. Their attempts to destroy the pyramid prove futile, highlighting the evolving threat and forcing their retreat. Concurrently, the Doctor, having been separated and briefly incapacitated, reunites with Victoria, who warns him about Professor Travers's suspicion regarding his involvement with the Yeti. Their reunion is swiftly interrupted by the authoritative arrival of Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart, who asserts his command and begins to question the Doctor and Victoria, establishing a new military presence and chain of command within the crisis. Back at the Goodge Street HQ, the military personnel, including Captain Knight and Staff Arnold, grapple with the escalating situation, noting the complete encirclement of the Circle Line by the encroaching web-like fungus. Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart formally takes charge, presenting his credentials and explaining the grim situation, including the loss of his ammunition party. Professor Travers, upon his arrival, vouches for the Doctor, quickly enlisting his help in the lab. In a crucial exposition, Travers reveals his past experiments with a Yeti control sphere, inadvertently reactivating the Great Intelligence, thus pinpointing the origin of the current onslaught. Meanwhile, reporter Chorley, trapped within the HQ, desperately seeks an escape route, revealing his self-preservation instincts and a willingness to exploit any potential weakness. His inquiries about alternative tunnels and surface access demonstrate his singular focus on personal escape, contrasting with the collective efforts to combat the threat. Simultaneously, Jamie and Evans continue their perilous journey through the tunnels. Evans, initially intent on deserting and saving himself, eventually changes his mind, swayed by a sense of loyalty or the realization that escape is impossible, deciding to return to HQ. The act culminates in a comprehensive briefing led by Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart, where the full, terrifying extent of the web's spread and the emergence of a new, more advanced 'Mark Two' Yeti are revealed, underscoring the dire stakes and the overwhelming nature of the threat facing London. The military's failed attempts to combat the web with conventional methods emphasize the critical need for the Doctor, Travers, and Anne to find a scientific solution.

Act 2

Following the dire revelations of the briefing, the focus shifts to devising a desperate countermeasure. The Doctor proposes a bold plan: to detonate explosives within the tunnel above Goodge Street, aiming to seal off their base and buy crucial time for developing a more permanent solution. Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart, embracing this 'practical soldiering,' mobilizes his staff to prepare the explosives and a trolley for deployment. This decision marks a significant escalation, transforming their strategy from containment to a more aggressive, albeit risky, defensive action. However, a sinister undercurrent emerges as a mysterious figure stealthily unbolts the main door of the fortress, leaving it vulnerable. This act of betrayal is compounded when the same figure places a modified Yeti control sphere near the explosives store, subtly activating a Yeti. This internal sabotage directly undermines the group's efforts, introducing a new layer of paranoia and distrust. The activated Yeti, guided by the planted sphere, infiltrates the fortress, breaches the explosives store, and neutralizes the charges by cocooning them in the pulsating web. The discovery of the open door, the missing padlock from the explosives store, and the presence of the missing model Yeti control sphere confirm the sabotage. The Doctor, piecing together these clues, confronts Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart with the stark reality: there is a traitor within their ranks, potentially controlling the Yeti. This revelation shatters any remaining sense of security and casts suspicion on everyone. Simultaneously, Victoria, unaware of the broader implications, inadvertently reveals the existence and capabilities of the TARDIS to Chorley. Chorley, ever opportunistic, immediately grasps its potential as his personal escape vehicle, especially upon learning of the plan to blow up the tunnel, which would cut off his access. He swiftly departs, intent on securing the TARDIS for himself. The Doctor, realizing Victoria's unwitting disclosure, attempts to stop Chorley, but finds himself locked in. The act culminates in the dramatic return of Jamie and Evans to HQ, who confirm Chorley's hurried departure. Their arrival is immediately followed by a chilling scream from the laboratory, signaling an imminent and direct threat, leaving the characters and the audience on a precipice of danger and uncertainty.
