The Seeds of Death Part 5

When the T-Mat system is compromised and deadly seed pods threaten Earth's atmosphere, the Doctor, along with Jamie and Zoe, must expose a Martian invasion plot and find a way to stop the deadly fungus from rendering Earth uninhabitable.

The episode opens with Fewsham attempting to aid Zoe but is revealed to be a reluctant accomplice of the Ice Warriors. The Doctor, Jamie, and Kelly manage to overcome a Warrior, with Zoe rejoining them with news that T-Mat is operational. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Radnor and Eldred are questioned by Sir James Gregson about the T-Mat breakdown and the strange crop blight. An Ice Warrior is seen infiltrating the Weather Control Bureau after killing a duty weatherman, manipulating Weather Control Units to 'Dry'.

On the moon, Fewsham reveals the Ice Warriors plan to use seed pods on Earth and T-Mat for invasion. The Doctor, Jamie, Zoe, and Kelly T-Mat back to Earth, leaving Fewsham behind. Upon arrival, they learn of the alien presence on Earth and the compromised T-Mat system. The Doctor uncovers the Ice Warriors' plan, while Zoe and Jamie struggle to relay crucial information about the Weather Control Bureau to those in charge. Fewsham reveals the Ice Warrior's plans through a video call, before getting killed himself by the warriors. The Doctor discovers that water can destroy the fungus and instructs everyone to make it rain.

Zoe and Jamie head to the Weather Control Bureau pursued by an Ice Warrior to initiate rain production. The Doctor, trying to reach Zoe and Jamie, faces the deadly foam. Meanwhile, Slaar coordinates with the Grand Marshal, setting the stage for the arrival of the Martian fleet. Ultimately, the Doctor finds a way to counteract the fungus with ordinary water, and the homing signal for the fleet is discovered. The episode ends on a cliff-hanger as the Doctor attempts to reach Zoe and Jamie at the Weather Control Bureau before it is too late.

Act 1

The episode opens with Fewsham, a reluctant accomplice, attempting to divert an Ice Warrior's aim away from Zoe on the Moonbase, revealing his forced cooperation with the invaders. Simultaneously, in another part of the Moonbase, the Doctor, Jamie, and Kelly manage to incapacitate a different Ice Warrior, which succumbs to the extreme heat they had engineered. Zoe then rejoins them, bringing the crucial news that the T-Mat system is operational again and that Fewsham, despite previous suspicions, had assisted her escape. The group swiftly decides to utilize the T-Mat to return to Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, Sir James Gregson, the United Nations Plenipotentiary for T-Mat, rigorously questions Commander Radnor and Professor Eldred about the complete breakdown of the T-Mat system and a sudden, widespread crop blight. Unbeknownst to them, an Ice Warrior has already infiltrated the Weather Control Bureau, killing the duty weatherman and manipulating the Weather Control Units to permanently set the atmospheric conditions to 'Dry'. Upon their arrival back on Earth, the Doctor and his companions are immediately confronted with the reality of an alien presence on their home planet. Kelly quickly exposes Fewsham's deception regarding a faulty time switch, solidifying her belief that he is actively collaborating with the Ice Warriors. The Doctor, with his characteristic insight, begins to connect the seemingly disparate incidents—the invasion of the Moonbase, the compromise of the T-Mat system, the deployment of deadly seed pods, and the recent sighting of an Ice Warrior on Earth—synthesizing them into a single, overarching, and sinister Martian invasion plan. This realization marks a critical shift from mere escape to understanding the full scope of the threat.

Act 2

Following his profound realization of the comprehensive invasion strategy, the Doctor dedicates himself to investigating the deadly fungus that now blights Earth. Through meticulous laboratory analysis, he determines its organic composition and, more alarmingly, its ultimate purpose: to drastically reduce Earth's atmospheric oxygen, rendering the planet uninhabitable for humans but perfectly suited for Martian life. This discovery confirms the Ice Warriors' terraforming objective. Crucially, during his experiments, the Doctor makes a breakthrough, identifying ordinary water as the sole agent capable of destroying the fungus. Armed with this vital information, he attempts to contact Earth's Weather Control Bureau to initiate widespread rainfall. However, his efforts are unsuccessful, prompting him to instruct Zoe and Jamie to relay the message to Commander Radnor and ensure the rain production. When Radnor proves unreachable, Zoe and Jamie, driven by urgency, decide to bypass official channels and head directly to the Weather Control Bureau themselves, unaware that an Ice Warrior was last sighted there, placing them in immediate peril. Concurrently, on the Moonbase, Fewsham, under the direct threat of Slaar, reluctantly connects a sophisticated communications unit from the Martian ship, which functions as a homing device for the approaching invasion fleet. In a final, desperate act of defiance and loyalty to Earth, Fewsham secretly activates a video-link to Earth Control. This allows the Earth team to overhear Slaar's communications with the Grand Marshal, confirming the fleet's imminent arrival and their critical dependence on the homing signal, as well as their dangerously low fuel supplies. Fewsham deliberately provokes Slaar into revealing these vulnerabilities before being summarily executed by a Warrior, ensuring Earth receives the crucial intelligence needed to counter the invasion.

Act 3

Armed with Fewsham's sacrifice and the intercepted intelligence, the Doctor immediately proposes a new strategy: using the Earth-launched satellite, originally intended to restore T-Mat control, to broadcast a false homing signal, thereby deflecting the Martian invasion fleet. Commander Radnor, convinced by the Doctor's urgency, cancels the satellite launch to implement this critical plan. However, the Doctor then learns that Zoe and Jamie, unaware of the lurking dangers, have gone directly to the Weather Control Bureau—the last known location of the Ice Warrior. Racing against time and the encroaching deadly foam, the Doctor makes his way to the Bureau. Inside, Zoe and Jamie discover the weatherman's body and the sabotaged 'Dry' controls, confirming the Warrior's actions, and quickly hide as the Warrior re-enters the control room. The episode concludes with the Doctor trapped outside the Bureau by a rapidly advancing tidal wave of foam, desperately trying to reach Zoe and Jamie, who are themselves trapped inside with the Ice Warrior, leaving their fates and Earth's defense hanging in the balance. The immediate threat to Earth is clear, and the protagonists face overwhelming odds, setting up a perilous cliffhanger.
