The Curse of Peladon Part 1
King Peladon navigates the Galactic Federation's admission process while facing internal strife, ancient curses, and external threats to his kingdom and people.
King Peladon seeks to join the Galactic Federation, despite opposition from his High Priest Hepesh, who fears the loss of Peladon's independence and the influence of superstition. Meanwhile, Chancellor Torbis's mysterious death sets off a chain of events, and the spirit of Aggedor, an ancient beast, is said to have risen again to warn and defend the king. As the Galactic Federation's delegates, including those from Alpha Centauri, Arcturus, and Mars, arrive to assess Peladon's suitability for membership, they become embroiled in the kingdom's internal conflicts and ancient legends. The Doctor and his companion Jo, who crash-land on Peladon, become entangled in these events, and their presence influences the course of the kingdom's future.

The narrative beats that drive the story
The narrative opens on the storm-swept planet of Peladon, where young King Peladon endeavors to secure his kingdom's entry into the Galactic Federation. This ambition faces staunch opposition from his High Priest, Hepesh, who champions Peladon's ancient traditions and warns of the 'curse of Aggedor' if they abandon their ways. Chancellor Torbis, a key proponent of Federation membership, clashes with Hepesh. The political tension escalates dramatically when Torbis is mysteriously attacked and killed in a castle corridor, prompting Hepesh to declare the ancient spirit of Aggedor has risen, fulfilling a dire prophecy. Simultaneously, the Doctor and his companion Jo crash-land their TARDIS on a perilous mountain ledge near the castle. Stranded and seeking assistance, they navigate treacherous terrain and hidden tunnels, eventually discovering a shrine dedicated to the beast Aggedor and encountering an Ice Warrior within the castle's confines. Captured by guards, they are brought before King Peladon and the assembled Federation delegates, including representatives from Alpha Centauri, Arcturus, and Mars (an Ice Lord named Izlyr). Hepesh dramatically recounts the legend of Aggedor, describing its return to warn and defend the king against a 'stranger' bringing peril, a statement delivered just as the Doctor and Jo are presented. The Doctor, quick-witted, improvises, claiming to be the Earth delegate and introducing Jo as 'Princess Josephine' to navigate the strict Peladonian protocol. The delegates express concern over Torbis's death and the implications of the Aggedor legend, viewing it as either a genuine threat or an attempt at intimidation. The act concludes with the mystery of Torbis's death and the 'curse' looming large, further complicated by the Doctor and Jo's unexpected arrival and the subtle machinations of figures like Grun, who is observed manipulating an Aggedor statue, hinting at a manufactured crisis.
