Act 1

The Doctor, with Hal and Sarah's assistance, narrowly escapes Irongron's men and seeks refuge at Sir Edward's castle. There, the Doctor reveals his identity as a Time Lord to Sarah, explaining his mission to stop Linx and prevent unlicensed time travel, which involves the missing scientists. Sir Edward, initially wary, compels the Doctor to pledge his services against Irongron, who is preparing an imminent assault. The Doctor, facing overwhelming odds, proposes a strategy to create an illusion of a formidable garrison to deter Irongron's forces. This act establishes the Doctor's true nature, solidifies his alliance with Sir Edward, and sets the stage for the first direct confrontation with Irongron and Linx.

Act 2

Irongron, brimming with overconfidence, prepares his men and Linx's advanced weapons for an easy conquest of Sir Edward's castle. Meanwhile, the Doctor, Sarah, and Sir Edward's household rapidly construct dummies and prepare smoke bombs to enact the Doctor's illusion. As Irongron and Linx approach, they are initially fooled by the apparent strength of the castle's defenses. Linx, however, quickly discerns the deception and demonstrates the effectiveness of his rifles on the dummies. The Doctor counters by deploying his smoke bombs, creating a disorienting haze that drives Irongron's forces into a chaotic retreat. Furious and humiliated, Irongron vows to renew the attack, while Linx, disgusted by Irongron's primitive tactics and lack of resolve, physically asserts his dominance, further highlighting the deep rift between the two allies.

Act 3

Following their initial success, the Doctor cautions Sir Edward that the illusion will not work a second time, proposing a daring counter-offensive: capturing Irongron's castle. He enlists Lady Eleanor to gather herbs for a calming draught, intended for Irongron. Disguised as monks, the Doctor and Sarah infiltrate Irongron's castle, narrowly avoiding detection by Linx. Inside Linx's workshop, they discover his Sontaran spaceship and the severely weakened, hypnotized scientists, including Professor Rubeish. The Doctor reveals a critical, immediate threat: Linx's spaceship is nearly ready for takeoff, and its departure will trigger a catastrophic explosion, destroying the entire castle. Simultaneously, Linx delivers more weapons to Irongron and defiantly declares his imminent departure, dismissing Irongron's attempts to control him, intensifying the ticking clock and the stakes for everyone within the castle.
