Act 1

The segment opens with the immediate aftermath of the T-Rex incident. Brigadier Yates subdues the creature, saving the Doctor, but his actions reveal a deeper, conflicted allegiance. Yates confronts Butler and Whitaker, who confirm his involvement in sabotaging the stun gun and task him with further delaying the Doctor's investigation by ensuring his instruments fail. Yates, however, explicitly refuses to cause the Doctor physical harm, highlighting his moral struggle within the conspiratorial framework. Back at the hangar, the Doctor, Brigadier, and Sarah begin their formal investigation into the dinosaur's sudden appearance. Sarah, leveraging her journalistic skills and contacts, uncovers information about Professor Whitaker, a brilliant but ostracized scientist known for his theories on time travel, making him a primary suspect. This crucial lead is immediately dismissed by Minister Grover, who, as chairman of the grant committee, labels Whitaker a 'harmless crank,' effectively closing off official avenues of inquiry. Frustrated by the bureaucratic stonewalling and the lack of progress, the Doctor plans to build a new, portable, albeit less accurate, detector for the temporal energy source. Simultaneously, Sarah, driven by her instincts and the official dismissal of her findings, resolves to pursue the Whitaker lead independently, setting the stage for her dangerous solo investigation. This initial phase establishes the core mystery, introduces the internal conflict within the antagonist group, and highlights the protagonists' differing approaches to uncovering the truth.

Act 2

This act marks a significant escalation in both danger and the direct confrontation with the unseen antagonists. Sarah, acting on her independent initiative and fueled by the official dismissal of her Whitaker lead, secures a special pass from General Finch. She returns to the hangar, intending to photograph the T-Rex for her story. Her use of flash photography inadvertently reawakens the chained dinosaur, plunging her into immediate peril. Compounding the danger, she discovers the external door to the hangar office is locked from the outside, trapping her with the rampaging creature. The Doctor, arriving just in time, heroically rescues Sarah from the T-Rex as it violently smashes through the hangar's structural integrity. Back at the makeshift laboratory, the team discovers conclusive evidence of sabotage: the T-Rex's heavy chains were deliberately cut, and the Doctor's sophisticated monitoring equipment was tampered with, yielding no readings. This confirms a malevolent insider's intent to cause harm, specifically targeting Sarah or the Doctor. Undeterred by her near-death experience, Sarah, connecting the Doctor's earlier comment about energy requirements, deduces that a powerful nuclear generator must be fueling the time travel. She recalls historical plans for secret underground government bunkers designed for atomic war, each equipped with its own nuclear power source. Pursuing this new lead, she confronts Minister Grover, who, after a brief pretense of cooperation, confirms the existence of such a bunker, revealing it lies directly beneath his own office. Grover then drops his facade, traps Sarah within this hidden facility, and initiates a process involving flashing blue lights, implying her incapacitation or mind control, thus concluding the act with her capture and the antagonists' direct reveal.
