The Sontaran Experiment Part 2

The Doctor and his companions must stop Field Major Styre's sinister experiments on humans, preventing a Sontaran invasion of Earth and potentially the galaxy.

The Doctor, Sarah, and Harry arrive on a desolate Earth, where they encounter Styre, a Sontaran conducting brutal experiments on humans to assess their physical limitations. As the Doctor and his companions navigate this dangerous landscape, they uncover Styre's true purpose: to gather intelligence for a potential Sontaran invasion. The Doctor devises a plan to defeat Styre by challenging him to single combat, while Harry sabotages Styre's spaceship. The Doctor successfully outmaneuvers Styre, and Harry's actions cause the spaceship to self-destruct, killing Styre. The Doctor then contacts the Sontaran Marshal, using Styre's communications device to bluff them into believing the invasion plans have been compromised. With Styre defeated and the Sontaran invasion fleet potentially deterred, the Doctor, Sarah, and Harry escape using the transmat station, leaving behind Krans and Erak to await rescue.

Act 1

The narrative opens with Field Major Styre, a Sontaran, interrogating newly captured humans, including Sarah. Styre demonstrates his brutality by executing Roth, dismissing human life as mere experimental subjects for his "G3 Military Assessment Survey." Sarah recognizes him as a Sontaran, but Styre asserts his distinct identity. Meanwhile, the Doctor, having escaped a pit with the unwitting help of Krans, Erak, and Vural, begins to investigate the strange environment. Harry, separated from the Doctor, discovers Sarah imprisoned within a forcefield, subjected to psychological torture via a device on her forehead, designed to exploit her deepest fears. Styre communicates with his Marshal, confirming Earth's desolation and his mission to test humans for an impending invasion, acknowledging "inconsistencies" in his data. The Doctor intervenes, disabling the forcefield and freeing Sarah from the device, then confronts Styre directly. Styre easily overpowers the Doctor, shooting him and leaving him for dead. Harry, finding both Sarah unconscious and the Doctor seemingly deceased, is filled with renewed resolve. He overhears Styre's detailed analysis of human weaknesses, confirming the Sontaran's methodical approach to invasion planning. The Doctor, however, reveals his survival, having used a piece of Nerva rocket mechanism to feign death. He quickly deduces the full scale of Styre's operation: a comprehensive military assessment to facilitate a full-scale Sontaran invasion of Earth and potentially the galaxy. This act establishes the immediate danger, Styre's ruthlessness, the Doctor's strategic mind, and the dire stakes of the Sontaran threat.

Act 2

With the full scope of the Sontaran invasion revealed, the Doctor formulates a daring plan. He resolves to challenge Field Major Styre to single combat, intending to exploit Styre's Sontaran pride and physical limitations in Earth's gravity to exhaust him. While the Doctor engages Styre, Harry's mission is to infiltrate Styre's spaceship and sabotage its critical systems. Styre continues his brutal experiments, subjecting Vural, Krans, and Erak to a crushing gravity bar test, even as the Sontaran Marshal presses him for his final invasion report, emphasizing the fleet's readiness. The Doctor confronts Styre, taunting him about his "butcher's ways" and challenging his warrior status, which Styre cannot refuse. Styre discards his weapon and engages the Doctor in hand-to-hand combat. During the intense duel, the Doctor skillfully evades Styre's attacks, wearing down the Sontaran. Simultaneously, Harry and Sarah free Krans and Erak from the gravity bar. Harry successfully enters Styre's spaceship using the sonic screwdriver and removes a vital "terullian diode bypass transformer." Styre, exhausted and weakened, retreats to his ship, but Vural, seeking redemption, intervenes in the fight, saving the Doctor's life before Styre kills him. As Styre enters his compromised vessel, the removed component causes the ship to self-destruct, disintegrating Styre. With Styre eliminated, the Doctor seizes his communications device. He bluffs the Sontaran Marshal, claiming the invasion plans are compromised and threatening the entire fleet if they advance. The Marshal, lacking Styre's final report, is deterred, postponing the invasion. The Doctor then repairs the transmat station, offering Krans and Erak passage, which they decline. The Doctor, Sarah, and Harry successfully transmat away, leaving the immediate threat neutralized and Earth temporarily safe.
