The Doctor, a time-traveling alien, and his companions Sarah, Harry, and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, become embroiled in a battle against the Zygons, a technologically advanced alien species. The Zygons, led by Commander Broton, have come to Earth to prepare for an invasion. They plan to use a massive monster, the Skarasen, to destroy a major gathering of world leaders at the Fourth International Energy Conference in London. The Doctor and his friends must thwart the Zygons' plans, navigating through disguises, spaceship battles, and underwater monster attacks. As the story unfolds, the Doctor and his companions work to disable the Zygons' operations, ultimately leading to a confrontation at Stanbridge House, where the final showdown takes place. Act 1

The Zygon invasion plan fully emerges, escalating the threat against Earth. Broton, having captured the Doctor, details his grand scheme to terraform the planet for a refugee fleet, revealing the catastrophic destruction of the Zygon homeworld. This revelation underscores the high stakes, as Broton envisions a world reshaped to his species' needs, using human labor and advanced Zygon technology. Simultaneously, UNIT mobilizes under the Brigadier's command, attempting to track the stealthy Zygon spaceship, which evades their radar. Sarah and Harry search Forgill Castle for clues, highlighting the initial struggle to gather intelligence against a technologically superior foe. The Zygon vessel eventually lands undetected, further emphasizing their operational secrecy. The Doctor, held captive, attempts a daring escape by disrupting the ship's internal communications via the tannoy system. This act of defiance results in a powerful electrical shock, leaving him seemingly lifeless and leading Broton to believe the Time Lord is dead. UNIT, however, triangulates the Doctor's last known signal to a disused quarry, providing a crucial, albeit delayed, lead. This act establishes the Zygons' formidable power and the Doctor's precarious position, setting the stage for a desperate struggle for survival and control of Earth's future.

Act 2

The narrative shifts as the Doctor, demonstrating remarkable resilience, revives from his near-fatal electrocution. He immediately leverages his ingenuity to explore the Zygon spaceship, discovering and liberating the real Duke of Forgill and Sister Lamont from their suspended animation. These newly freed individuals become vital allies, providing crucial context and assistance. The Doctor quickly devises a strategic plan to disrupt the Zygons' operations: he triggers a fire alarm within the ship, creating a diversion that lures the Zygon guards away from the control room. Seizing this opportunity, the Doctor, along with the Duke and Lamont, infiltrates the control room, jams the door to trap the remaining Zygons, and then activates the ship's self-destruct sequence. This decisive action results in the spectacular destruction of the Zygon spaceship, a significant victory for UNIT, who arrive at the quarry just as the Doctor and his allies escape. However, the triumph is short-lived, as the Doctor reveals Broton's escape and his continued control over the monstrous Skarasen. The Zygon commander's new objective is to unleash the creature on a critical target in London, identified as Stanbridge House, where the Fourth International Energy Conference is underway, attended by world leaders. Sarah's quick thinking reveals Broton, disguised as the Duke, possesses the necessary security clearance, intensifying the urgency and setting the stage for the final confrontation in the heart of the capital.

Act 3

The climax unfolds rapidly as the Doctor, Sarah, and UNIT race to London, converging on Stanbridge House to thwart Broton's final, devastating plan. Broton, still disguised as the Duke, infiltrates the building and plants the Skarasen's signaling device in the cellar, preparing to unleash the monster. UNIT HQ reports the Skarasen's imminent arrival, creating a frantic race against time. The Doctor, Sarah, and the Brigadier split up to search the sprawling complex. The Doctor confronts Broton in the dimly lit cellar, where the Zygon commander sheds his human disguise, revealing his true form and asserting his control over the Skarasen. Broton attempts to seize Sarah, who escapes to alert the Brigadier. A fierce struggle ensues between the Doctor and Broton, with the Zygon initially gaining the upper hand due to his superior strength. UNIT soldiers, led by the Brigadier, arrive and open fire, fatally wounding Broton. As he dies, Broton issues a chilling warning that the Skarasen will still destroy them all. The Doctor, realizing the monster is drawn to the device, quickly locates it. He orders the building's evacuation, then rushes outside to confront the enormous Skarasen. With precise timing, the Doctor throws the signaling device into the River Thames, and the Skarasen, following its instinct, dives in to retrieve and consume it. The monster, having fulfilled its purpose, then returns to the depths of Loch Ness, effectively neutralizing the Zygon threat. The aftermath sees the incident officially covered up by the Cabinet, ensuring public ignorance of the alien invasion. The Doctor, Sarah, Harry, and the Duke return to Scotland, where the Doctor invites Sarah to join him on his next adventure in the TARDIS, leaving Harry and the Brigadier to their conventional lives, and setting the stage for new journeys.
