Planet of Evil Part 2

The Doctor and Sarah escape from an alien creature but soon find themselves pursued by military forces seeking to exploit the planet's energy-rich mineral samples, leading to a confrontation with deadly consequences.

The Doctor and Sarah flee from an energy creature that desiccates a sentry, allowing them to escape to the jungle. Ponti and de Haan investigate the sentry's disappearance, discovering his desiccated remains. As they discuss the implications, Salamur, the expedition leader, orders a search for the escaped prisoners. The Doctor and Sarah evade capture, stumbling upon a rock pool with a mysterious black pool that seems to have no reflection. An oculoid tracker is launched to locate them, leading to a tense confrontation. The Doctor explains to Salamur that the planet is a boundary between universes, and tampering with its energy could have catastrophic consequences. Meanwhile, Sorenson, a scientist, prioritizes collecting mineral samples for energy production, unaware of the risks. The Doctor attempts to reason with him, warning that exploiting the planet's resources could lead to disaster. As tensions escalate, the crew prepares for launch, but the Doctor and Sarah thwart their plans by sabotaging the ship. The energy creature reappears, threatening the crew, but the Doctor helps them establish a forcefield barrier linked to the atomic accelerator, repelling the creature. Eventually, the crew agrees to abandon their mineral samples to avoid further conflict, and the Doctor leaves to negotiate their safe passage.

Act 1

The narrative opens with the Doctor and Sarah fleeing an energy creature after it desiccates a sentry, O'Hara, leaving behind only his remains. They discover O'Hara's body, prompting the Doctor to theorize about an 'unpleasant' cause linked to the planet's unique properties. Simultaneously, within the expedition base, Controller Salamar and Vishinsky investigate a mysterious power drain and O'Hara's disappearance, quickly realizing the Doctor and Sarah have escaped their confinement. Salamar, asserting military authority, orders their immediate recapture, initiating a widespread search and launching an advanced oculoid tracker at first light to pinpoint their location in the dense jungle. Professor Sorenson, the expedition's lead scientist, remains largely unconcerned with the immediate dangers, instead prioritizing the collection of energy-rich mineral samples, which he believes are crucial for his project to save their dying sun. The Doctor and Sarah, meanwhile, skillfully evade the surveillance of the oculoid tracker in the treacherous jungle terrain, eventually stumbling upon a mysterious rock pool with no discernible reflection. The Doctor identifies this anomaly as a critical point, hinting at deeper, unseen forces at play. A pursuit party, led by Ponti, corners them at this very pool. Ponti attempts to search Sarah, but is violently consumed by the pool's 'nothingness,' a dramatic event that powerfully reinforces the Doctor's earlier warnings about tampering with the planet's delicate and dangerous balance. Following this incident, the Doctor and Sarah are finally captured and brought back to the base as prisoners, setting the stage for a direct and unavoidable confrontation with Salamar and Sorenson over the planet's true nature and the expedition's perilous, resource-driven objectives.

Act 2

Act Two begins with the Doctor and Sarah held captive within the expedition base, facing interrogation by Salamar and Vishinsky. The Doctor attempts to explain the planet Zeta Minor's true nature: a perilous boundary between their known universe and an 'other universe' of antimatter. He warns that their expedition, particularly Sorenson's intent to plunder the planet's resources, constitutes a dangerous intrusion that could lead to catastrophic consequences. Sorenson, however, remains fixated on his scientific mission, dismissing the Doctor's warnings as 'nonsense' and asserting his authority to proceed with the mineral samples' loading and an immediate launch. Despite Salamar's military command, Sorenson's high-level connections create tension and undermine the Controller's authority, pushing the expedition closer to an ill-advised departure. The Doctor, recognizing the immense danger, rejects Sarah's suggestion to escape in the TARDIS, emphasizing the potential for universal cataclysm if the crew departs with the volatile samples. He discreetly examines a sample, confirming its unstable, colour-changing properties. As the crew initiates launch procedures, the Doctor and Sarah sabotage the ship, causing critical system failures and preventing takeoff. This act of defiance coincides with the reappearance of the energy creature, which attacks the now-vulnerable vessel. In a critical turning point, the Doctor, demonstrating his expertise, guides the frantic crew to link the forcefield barrier to the atomic accelerator, successfully repelling the creature and momentarily saving the ship, thereby validating his earlier warnings and asserting his crucial role.

Act 3

Following the energy creature's attack on the ship and its subsequent repulsion by the Doctor's quick-thinking intervention, Act Three focuses on the immediate aftermath and the critical decisions that must be made. Salamar, now convinced of the Doctor's expertise, demands a full explanation. The Doctor reiterates the extreme danger of transporting the mineral samples, clarifying that the creature's aggressive presence is directly linked to the volatile material. He warns that the samples' continued presence on board will guarantee the creature's return and, ultimately, lead to a catastrophic universal destruction, emphasizing the planet's role as a delicate inter-dimensional boundary. Sorenson, still driven by his mission, passionately argues for the samples' absolute necessity, claiming they are vital to refuel their dying sun and save their entire civilization from collapse. However, the Doctor firmly counters, asserting that this is not a viable or sustainable solution and that they must urgently seek an alternative, less destructive energy source. Faced with the Doctor's validated warnings and the recent, terrifying near-catastrophe, Salamar reluctantly agrees to jettison the highly dangerous mineral canisters, finally accepting the Doctor's assessment of the overwhelming threat. The crucial question then arises: how to communicate their peaceful, non-exploitative intentions to the 'other universe' to ensure their safe departure. The Doctor volunteers to undertake this perilous negotiation, stating his 'influence' can facilitate their passage, but he insists on going alone. Despite Sarah's evident concern and protest, he departs, leaving her behind as a de facto hostage to ensure his return. Salamar, still wary and distrustful of the alien, immediately orders the oculoid tracker to discreetly follow the Doctor's movements, maintaining surveillance despite his assistance, setting up further tension and uncertainty about his solo mission and the crew's ultimate fate.
