The Stones of Blood Part 2

When the Doctor and Romana stumble upon a sinister Druidic ritual, they must unravel a mystery involving an ancient stone circle, a powerful entity known as the Cailleach, and a plot that threatens the very fabric of reality.

The Doctor and Romana find themselves entangled in a dark plot involving a group of Druids who plan to sacrifice the Doctor to appease the ancient entity known as the Cailleach. The ritual takes place at a stone circle known as the Nine Travellers, which has a history of mysterious power. Romana, initially separated from the Doctor, uses her resourcefulness and knowledge to help him evade capture and eventually foil the Druids' plans. Alongside Professor Emilia, an expert in megalithic archaeology, they uncover a deeper conspiracy involving the history of the stone circle and a series of mysterious events tied to the entity known as the Cailleach. The Cailleach, a figure from ancient mythology, seems to be using the stone circle for a powerful and malevolent purpose. As the story unfolds, the Doctor and Romana face numerous challenges, including a silicon-based creature and a hidden sisterhood with a long history of controlling the land on which the stone circle stands. The narrative weaves through themes of power, mythology, and the struggle between ancient traditions and modern rationality.

Act 1

The act opens with the Doctor facing imminent sacrifice by the Druids at the Nine Travellers stone circle, while Romana clings precariously to a cliff edge. Emilia's timely arrival on a bicycle disrupts the ritual and frees the Doctor, but a frantic search reveals Romana is missing. K9, retrieved from the TARDIS, tracks Romana to the cliff, where she accuses the Doctor of pushing her. Romana deduces an 'image' of the Doctor, utilizing the third segment's power to transform appearances, was responsible for her fall. This revelation establishes a new, more mysterious antagonist capable of manipulating perceptions and creating illusions. The Doctor, now aware of this advanced threat and the true nature of the power at play, instructs Romana to re-examine the stone circle using a tracer, hinting at complex interspatial dynamics that might explain the illusion and the stone's hidden properties. This sets the stage for a deeper investigation into the circle's true power and the identity of the entity behind the illusions.

Act 2

Romana's re-scan of the stone circle confirms a mysterious presence, while the Doctor investigates De Vries, believing him a source of information. This leads to the discovery of De Vries and Martha's brutal murder by a silicon-based, globulin-deficient creature, which also severely damages K9. While Romana works to repair K9 using the TARDIS's molecular stabiliser, she and Emilia research the stone circle's history, uncovering a consistent pattern of female ownership and a potential ancient 'sisterhood' connected to the site. Meanwhile, the Cailleach performs a blood ritual, commanding the 'Ogri' to do her bidding, confirming the creature's identity and its master. The Doctor and Emilia discover a hidden priest hole in De Vries's manor, revealing portraits of historical female landowners, all depicting the same dark-haired woman. The dramatic revelation that this woman is Vivien Fay, their seemingly benign associate, exposes a deep-seated conspiracy and establishes her as a central, malevolent force. The act concludes as Vivien approaches Romana at the now glowing stone circle, her sinister intentions now apparent, placing Romana in immediate peril.
