Castrovalva Part 1

The Doctor, after a potentially fatal regeneration, must navigate his companions' efforts to help him while avoiding the Master's trap, all while the Tardis hurtles towards a catastrophic destination.

The Doctor regenerates after a near-fatal fall, merging with his future self, the Watcher. As he adjusts to his new form, his companions Tegan, Nyssa, and Adric navigate the challenges of his regeneration and the Tardis's unpredictable behavior. Meanwhile, the Master intervenes, setting a trap that ensnares Adric. The Tardis is on a programmed course for 'Event One,' the creation of the galaxy through a massive hydrogen in-rush. As the Tardis approaches this event, the crew faces extreme danger, and the Doctor's regeneration proves unstable. The story builds towards a climactic confrontation with the Master and the threat of destruction as the Tardis hurtles into the heart of the cosmic event.

Act 1

The narrative opens with the immediate aftermath of the Doctor's regeneration, his new form coalescing after the Watcher merges with him. Still disoriented and physically weak, the Doctor relies heavily on his companions, Tegan, Nyssa, and Adric, who struggle to protect him from the hostile security forces of the Pharos Project. During their escape, Tegan exhibits decisive action, commandeering an ambulance to rescue the Doctor, but the chaos results in Adric's separation and capture. The Master, revealed as the unseen orchestrator, materializes his TARDIS, ensnaring Adric and then shadowing the Doctor's vessel as it dematerializes. Inside the TARDIS, the Doctor's regeneration proves dangerously unstable, manifesting as erratic behavior and a desperate search for a 'Zero Room'—a neutral environment essential for his recovery. As the Doctor grapples with his internal turmoil, Tegan and Nyssa attempt to decipher the TARDIS's intricate controls. Their efforts lead to a chilling discovery: the TARDIS is on a pre-programmed, unalterable course for a catastrophic destination designated 'Hydrogen In Rush, Event One.' This revelation transforms their immediate concern from merely aiding the Doctor's recovery to confronting an unknown, existential threat, establishing the primary conflict and raising the stakes significantly for the crew. The Master's unseen influence and the TARDIS's perilous trajectory now define the central challenge, shifting the focus from personal recovery to cosmic survival.

Act 2

With the Doctor safely ensconced in the Zero Room, his regeneration seemingly stabilizing, the focus shifts to the unfolding crisis. Adric, held captive by the Master, projects an illusory image into the Zero Room, urgently warning Tegan and Nyssa of a trap he set, linking himself to the locked coordinates of 'Event One.' The Master, from his own TARDIS, confirms Adric's imprisonment and his crucial, unwitting role in the 'block transfer' calculations that control the TARDIS's trajectory. Despite the alarming revelation, Nyssa and Tegan decide to shield the Doctor from Adric's fate, recognizing his dangerously unstable state. However, the TARDIS itself begins to show severe distress; the walls grow hot, and the ominous Cloister Bell tolls, signaling imminent disaster. The Doctor, sensing the deepening peril, attempts to leave the Zero Room but collapses, his regeneration still too fragile for the external environment. Tegan rushes to the console room, where Nyssa deciphers the full horror of their destination. The data screen flashes warnings: 'Tardis approaching Hydrogen In-Rush, Event One. Environment beyond engineering tolerances.' They realize 'Event One' is not merely a destination but the very creation of the galaxy—a massive, primordial explosion of hydrogen. The TARDIS is violently shaken, knocking the Doctor unconscious and burning Tegan's hand, as the scanner displays the Master's triumphant, laughing face, confirming his direct responsibility for their impending doom.
