Kinda Part 3

The Doctor and Todd must navigate the Kinda's mystical world, thwart Aris's plans, and prevent the destruction of their dome, all while unraveling the secrets of the Box of Jhana and the Mara's influence.

The Doctor, Todd, and their companions find themselves on a mysterious planet inhabited by the Kinda, a seemingly primitive but deeply spiritual and interconnected species. The story begins with a series of surreal and humorous events, including the opening of a jack-in-the-box that leads to a shared vision of the Kinda's world. As they explore this new world, they encounter various Kinda, including Karuna, who becomes a guide, and Aris, who has gained the ability to speak and is determined to destroy the Not-we (outsiders) and protect the Kinda way of life. The Doctor and Todd learn about the prophecy that foretells the arrival of the Not-we and their role in the Kinda's history. They also meet Panna, the wise woman, who possesses knowledge of the Mara, an evil force that manipulates and causes chaos. As the story unfolds, the Doctor and Todd navigate the complexities of Kinda society, uncover the secrets of the Box of Jhana, and confront the Mara's influence. Ultimately, they must stop Aris's plans to destroy the dome and prevent a catastrophic cycle of violence and despair from beginning. Along the way, they form connections with the Kinda, particularly Karuna and Panna, and gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all living beings.

Act 1

The narrative opens with the Doctor, Todd, and Sanders sharing a moment of relief and laughter after the jack-in-the-box reveals a simple doll. This brief respite quickly shifts when the Doctor realizes the box has telepathically linked them to the Kinda, granting them a shared vision of the forest and its inhabitants. Recognizing the Kinda's complexity, the Doctor decides they must investigate the forest, instructing Todd to leave Sanders behind. As they make their escape, the airlock doors begin to close, forcing them to jump and narrowly evade being trapped inside the dome. Meanwhile, within the control room, Hindle's paranoia escalates. He begins to articulate a drastic plan to Sanders: to detonate the entire dome, ensuring its complete destruction and preventing any outside threat from entering. Adric, left behind, observes Hindle's increasingly erratic behavior and the ominous preparations for the dome's self-destruction, setting a parallel threat within the confined space.

Act 2

Lost in the forest, the Doctor and Todd encounter a Kinda Trickster, a jester-like figure who uses mime and playful antics to diffuse tension. This interaction is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Aris, a Kinda male who shockingly possesses the ability to speak, a trait considered impossible for his species. Aris, under a malevolent influence, immediately commands the other Kinda to seize the 'Not-we,' identifying the Doctor and Todd as threats. Karuna, a Kinda woman from their earlier vision, intervenes, referencing a prophecy that foretells a speaking man among them and suggesting that only Panna, the wise woman, can interpret this unprecedented event. Karuna then guides the Doctor and Todd towards Panna's cave. Simultaneously, inside the dome, Hindle and Sanders continue their work on the detonator, discussing the 'Zone of Maximum Impact' and the 'Total Area of Devastation' their plan will cause. Adric attempts to leave but Hindle's increasing authoritarianism prevents him. Upon reaching the cave, Panna, a blind but perceptive elder, questions the Doctor's presence, particularly his ability to open the Box of Jhana without succumbing to madness, setting a skeptical tone for their encounter.

Act 3

Inside her cave, Panna gravely explains that Aris's newfound voice signals the beginning of a destructive historical cycle, where 'the great wheel will begin to roll down the hill,' bringing suffering and chaos. Aris soon arrives at the cave, asserting his authority over the Kinda, who demonstrate unwavering 'Obedience' to his commands. Panna attempts to reason with him, warning that his plan to destroy the dome will only perpetuate a cycle of despair, but Aris dismisses her. The Doctor and Todd learn from Panna that Aris bears the 'sign of the snake,' the mark of the Mara, an ancient evil force that thrives on suffering and delusion. Recognizing the Mara's influence, Panna insists the Doctor and Todd must understand the full scope of the threat before they can act. She then guides them through a profound, shared vision. Within this vision, they witness the cyclical nature of Kinda history, marked by symbolic timekeeping devices and culminating in a moment of widespread despair and the Trickster's suffering, all underscored by Aris's malevolent laughter. Emerging from the vision, the Doctor confirms the Mara's presence within Aris, and both realize the urgency of their mission: they must return to the dome to prevent Aris's attack and break the cycle of destruction.
