Earthshock Part 1

When a group of scientists and military personnel investigate a fossil site, they encounter an alien threat that has been awakened, leading to a deadly confrontation.

The story begins with a group of explorers, led by Professor Kyle, who are on a survey mission in a newly discovered cave system rich in fossils. They are accompanied by a team of armed personnel led by Lieutenant Scott. As they navigate through the caves, their detector equipment fails to detect any signs of life, suggesting that the previous expedition may have been wiped out. Meanwhile, in the TARDIS, Adric is frustrated with the Doctor's lack of attention and decides he wants to return to his home planet, Terradon. The Doctor refuses, leading to a rift between them. As the team proceeds deeper into the caves, they encounter strange occurrences and eventually discover that the cave system is being inhabited by androids who are hunting them. The androids are nearly indestructible and seem to be controlled by an unknown entity. The Doctor, Tegan, and Nyssa materialize in the TARDIS nearby and become entangled in the conflict. The story unfolds as the team fights for survival and tries to uncover the reason behind the androids' actions.

Act 1

The narrative opens at a remote quarry where Professor Kyle, a survivor from a previous fossil-hunting expedition, guides Lieutenant Scott and his armed military team. Their mission: locate Kyle's missing colleagues within a newly discovered, fossil-rich cave system. Initial scans for mammalian life yield no results, suggesting the previous team's demise. Kyle recounts strange occurrences that plagued her expedition, hinting at an unseen force. Meanwhile, aboard the TARDIS, Adric expresses profound frustration with the Doctor, feeling neglected and desiring to return to his home planet, Terradon, a request the Doctor vehemently denies due to the dangers of re-entering E-space. This internal conflict establishes a rift within the TARDIS crew. Scott's team descends into the treacherous caves, where scanner anomalies begin to register unidentified lifeforms, one with two hearts, suggesting an alien presence. The danger escalates rapidly as Trooper Bane is injured by a mysterious rockfall, and later, a search party led by Snyder is wiped out by an unseen assailant, their life signs vanishing from the scanner. The Doctor, Tegan, and Nyssa then materialize the TARDIS in the same cave system, drawn by an unknown force. They discover ancient dinosaur fossils, leading to a discussion about Earth's catastrophic past. Their exploration brings them face-to-face with Scott's increasingly desperate military unit. Scott, having lost multiple troopers to an invisible enemy, immediately accuses the Doctor's group of the murders. As tensions peak, a hidden hatch is uncovered, revealing two sleek, featureless androids. These entities, impervious to scans, engage Scott's troops in a deadly firefight. The Doctor identifies them as androids, confirming them as the unseen threat responsible for the deaths and the previous expedition's disappearance. This revelation shifts the conflict from a search-and-rescue mission into a direct fight for survival against a technologically advanced, unknown enemy.
