In the third part of 'Time Flight', the Doctor and his companions find themselves trapped in a complex web of time and space as they attempt to prevent the Master from misusing the power of the Xeraphin. The story begins with the Doctor and the Master engaging in a battle of wits, with the Master attempting to use the Doctor's Tardis to penetrate the sanctum. Act 1

The narrative opens with the Doctor confronting the Master, who has escaped Castrovalva and requires the Doctor's TARDIS to access a powerful sanctum. The Master, wielding a deadly tissue compressor, forces the Doctor to surrender his TARDIS key. The Master departs in the Doctor's TARDIS, leaving the Doctor, Professor Hayter, Scobie, Stapley, and Bilton behind. The Doctor deduces the Master is stranded, having used components from the Doctor's TARDIS, and now needs the Doctor's vehicle to penetrate the sanctum for a new power source. He believes Nyssa and Tegan are trapped within this sanctum. Critically, the Doctor reveals a subtle counter-measure: he left a coordinate override active in his TARDIS, hinting at a larger strategy. Recognizing the hallucinogenic effects of the area's power, the Doctor decides to proceed to the sanctum with only Professor Hayter, whose mental resistance to the psychic influence proves stronger than the others. Meanwhile, Stapley and Bilton, observing the Master's TARDIS materializing, seize an opportunity to infiltrate it, hoping to disable its controls or at least keep the Master off its flight deck. The Doctor also discovers an induction loop of cables running from the Master's TARDIS, realizing the Master is already tapping into the local power source. This initial act establishes the Master's immediate objective, the Doctor's strategic counter-moves, and the companions' independent actions to disrupt the Master's plans, setting the stage for the unfolding conflict.

Act 2

The Doctor and Professor Hayter navigate a stone passageway, eventually reaching the sanctum chamber where Angela Clifford and other passengers are attempting to break through a wall, unknowingly influenced by the local power. Simultaneously, Stapley and Bilton, hidden within the Master's TARDIS, attempt to disable its controls, only for the Master to return and fit his own components, unaware of their presence. The Doctor and Hayter finally breach the sanctum, reuniting with a dazed Nyssa and Tegan. Inside, they discover a mysterious, living, orange, bubbly organism within a sarcophagus. Nyssa reveals they were "willed" to this location. The Doctor identifies the organism as an "immeasurable intelligence" and, upon finding small statuettes, deduces it is the Xeraphin—a legendary, highly developed race reduced to a single, immensely powerful organism by the Master's tissue compressor. This revelation clarifies the Master's true objective: to harness this concentrated power. The group soon finds themselves trapped as the entrance they used seals itself. Meanwhile, Stapley, still inside the Master's TARDIS, sabotages its circuits. The Master returns, observes the damage, declares the TARDIS "no longer important," and, after removing more circuits, abandons it, sending it dematerializing with Stapley and Bilton aboard. This act deepens the mystery of the sanctum, reveals the true nature of the Xeraphin, and escalates the Master's scheme while complicating the companions' escape.

Act 3

With the Doctor and his companions trapped within the sanctum, the Master's full ambition becomes clear: he intends to harness the Xeraphin's immense mental power as a replacement for his own TARDIS's depleted dynomorphic generator. Nyssa, feeling the Xeraphin's returning power, is drawn towards the sarcophagus, explaining it contains the "wisdom of the universe" and calls for a sacrifice for their survival. Despite the Doctor's warnings of absorption, Professor Hayter steps forward, driven by scientific curiosity and the desire to inherit universal knowledge. He is enveloped by a bright yellow glow, screams, and collapses, his molecular structure breaking down as he becomes a Plasmaton, absorbed by the Xeraphin. Simultaneously, outside the sanctum, Angela struggles with intense hallucinogenic effects, but Scobie helps her resist, learning from her that the Doctor has entered the sanctum. While Stapley attempts to fly the now-abandoned TARDIS, a silver humanoid, Anithon of the Xeraphin, materializes from the sarcophagus, signifying a new, powerful entity has emerged. In a final, decisive move for this segment, the Master reappears, compelling Angela into a pillar that functions as his TARDIS, and follows her, indicating his acquisition of a new captive and a renewed offensive. This act culminates in a profound sacrifice, the manifestation of the Xeraphin's true form, and a renewed threat from the Master, leaving the Doctor facing a complex and dangerous new reality.
