The Two Doctors Part 2

The Doctor and Peri navigate a complex web of time travel, alien conspiracies, and mind-swaps as they try to prevent the Sontarans from exploiting Time Lord technology, while also rescuing the Doctor's alternate incarnation.

The narrative unfolds as the Doctor and his companion Peri find themselves entangled in a sophisticated plot by the Sontarans, who are attempting to harness the power of Time Lord technology. The story takes off when Peri is attacked by a humanoid creature, which the Doctor analyzes to understand its origins. The analysis leads them to Jamie McCrimmon, an acquaintance of another incarnation of the Doctor, who has been transported to this timeline. The Sontarans' sinister intentions are revealed as they plan to use the Kartz-Reimer transference module to isolate the symbiotic nuclei of a Time Lord, which would grant them unlimited access to time travel. As the Doctor navigates through various time-slip scenarios and encounters different versions of himself, he teams up with Jamie and Peri to thwart the Sontarans' plans. The story weaves together elements of intrigue, interdimensional travel, and confrontations with alien entities, culminating in a complex rescue mission to save the Doctor's alternate incarnation and prevent a catastrophic convergence of timelines.

Act 1

The narrative opens with Peri incapacitating a humanoid attacker, revealed to be Jamie McCrimmon, a companion of a previous Doctor. Jamie's disoriented state and repeated assertion, 'They killed the Doctor,' immediately establish the central mystery and the precarious situation of the Doctor's past self. The Doctor, recovering from a stun jet, analyzes the situation, deducing the presence of hostile forces. He uses a hypnotic fob watch on Jamie, extracting crucial information about 'knights' with heavy armor and two-fingered hands, which the Doctor identifies as Sontarans. This confirms the primary antagonists and their involvement. Further investigation of Dastari's log reveals the Sontarans' true objective: to exploit Time Lord technology, specifically the Kartz-Reimer module, to gain unlimited access to time travel by isolating the symbiotic nuclei of a Time Lord. The Doctor initially fears his own death and the collapse of the universe but soon realizes the Sontarans created an illusion to deter investigation. This realization shifts the objective from understanding a past death to rescuing a captive Doctor. Recognizing the urgency, the Doctor decides to use telepathy to locate his alternate incarnation, entering a trance state and leaving Peri and Jamie to guard him. This act effectively sets the stage, introduces the main conflict, identifies the antagonists, and establishes the immediate goal of finding the kidnapped Doctor.

Act 2

Following the Doctor's telepathic attempt, the narrative shifts to the captive Second Doctor, held in a cellar laboratory by Dastari and the augmented Androgum, Chessene. Doctor 2 is drugged and restrained, confirming the Sontarans' sinister intentions to extract his symbiotic nuclei. Concurrently, our Doctor awakens from his trance, guided by the sound of distant bells, pinpointing his location to Seville. He, Peri, and Jamie materialize the TARDIS in the Spanish countryside. There, they encounter Oscar Botcherby and Anita, who, mistaking the TARDIS for a police box, report seeing three survivors (the Sontarans, Chessene, and Dastari) heading towards Doña Arana's hacienda. This encounter provides the Doctor with the precise location of his captive self. Back in the cellar, Doctor 2 confronts Dastari and Chessene, vehemently opposing their plan to empower Chessene with time travel, warning of her inherent Androgum treachery. Group Marshal Stike of the Sontarans pressures Dastari to expedite the operation, highlighting the Sontaran war effort. Our Doctor, having scouted the hacienda, devises a plan for infiltration: Peri will create a distraction at the main entrance while he and Jamie use a secret passage through an old ice house to enter the cellars. This act meticulously develops the antagonist's plot, brings our protagonists to the doorstep of the danger, and sets the stage for direct confrontation.

Act 3

The final act intensifies as Dastari prepares Doctor 2 for the agonizing procedure to detach his occipital bones, aiming to extract his symbiotic nuclei. Simultaneously, Peri executes her distraction, knocking on the hacienda's front door, drawing the attention of Chessene and Shockeye. Chessene, suspicious of Peri's presence, tests her by having Doctor 2 wheeled through the entrance hall, observing Peri's reaction. Peri's visible concern confirms Chessene's suspicions, prompting her to order Shockeye to deal with the 'intruder,' forcing Peri to flee. Meanwhile, our Doctor and Jamie successfully infiltrate the cellar via the rickety ladder from the ice house. They discover the Kartz-Reimer transference module, the very device the Sontarans intend to use. Our Doctor examines the module, explaining to Jamie that while the Sontarans have copied the technology, they lack the crucial 'Rassilon Imprimatur'—a symbiotic print within a Time Lord's physiology—necessary to make it fully functional for non-Time Lords. This revelation exposes the fundamental flaw in the Sontarans' plan, providing a potential avenue to thwart them. However, as the Doctor delivers this critical exposition, Stike and Varl, the Sontaran Group Marshal and his subordinate, suddenly appear, having crept up behind them. The act concludes on a tense cliffhanger, with the Sontarans discovering our Doctor and Jamie, their weapons raised, setting the stage for an immediate and perilous confrontation.
