Act 1

The narrative opens with Peri's frantic search for help for an "injured friend," leading her to the eccentric Chief Embalmer, Jobel, in the Tranquil Repose Gardens. The Doctor emerges from beneath a monument, revealing his survival, and immediately sets out to discover who erected his statue. Their investigation brings them to Tasambeker, who introduces them to the facility's cryogenic services and the "personalized communication service" featuring the quirky DJ. Simultaneously, the ruthless assassin Orcini and his squire, Bostock, arrive on Necros, tasked with a mission of "honor" that quickly involves a skirmish with a Dalek. Kara, a powerful figure, tracks the President's ship and anticipates Orcini's success in eliminating Davros, whom she refers to as the "Great Healer," to seize control of the galaxy's food supply. Davros, aware of the assassins, dispatches Daleks to protect Kara, subtly indicating his suspicion of her. The Doctor's persistent inquiries about his statue lead him closer to the "Great Healer," but his pursuit is abruptly halted when Lilt and Takis capture him, chaining him in a cell alongside Natasha and Grigory. This act establishes the core mystery, introduces the main players and their conflicting agendas, and sets the Doctor on a collision course with the sinister forces at play, culminating in his initial incapacitation.

Act 2

Following the Doctor's capture, Peri, separated from him, seeks refuge with Jobel and encounters the DJ in his radio studio. The DJ, with his Earth-inspired patter, reveals his disdain for the "Great Healer," hinting at Davros' true nature. Meanwhile, Davros, operating from his laboratory, manipulates Tasambeker, forcing her to choose loyalty by ordering her to kill Jobel, who has been conspiring with Takis. The Doctor, having learned from Natasha and Grigory about Davros' horrific scheme to turn bodies into Daleks through genetic engineering, frees himself from his shackles. Kara, celebrating Orcini's impending success, is abruptly confronted by Davros' Daleks, who kill her aide, Vogel, and capture her. Orcini and Bostock, having infiltrated the facility, release the Doctor and his cellmates, using them as a diversion. Tasambeker, torn between love and fear, attempts to warn Jobel about Davros' plan to transform Tranquil Repose into a Dalek breeding ground, but Jobel's cruel rejection pushes her to fatally stab him. Daleks subsequently exterminate Tasambeker. Peri, using the DJ's equipment, communicates with the Doctor, who instructs her to warn President Vargos and return to the TARDIS, but the DJ sacrifices himself using his sonic weapon to protect Peri from approaching Daleks. Orcini and Bostock confront Davros, seemingly destroying his tank-like body, but Davros reveals his true form in a Dalek travel unit, incapacitating Orcini and killing Bostock. Kara's bomb plot is exposed, and Orcini, with his dying breath, kills Kara. This act escalates the conflict, revealing Davros' full villainy, and sees multiple characters sacrifice themselves or fall victim to the unfolding chaos.

Act 3

The climax unfolds as Takis and Lilt introduce a contingent of 'normal' grey Daleks, summoned to confront Davros. The Doctor, now in Davros' laboratory with Peri, faces Davros directly, who gloats about his plan to use the deceased for synthetic protein, feeding the galaxy while secretly converting the "ambitious" into his new Dalek army. Orcini, still alive despite his injuries, signals the Doctor about the bomb he carries. A fierce battle erupts between Davros' white Daleks and the newly arrived grey Daleks. In the chaos, Bostock, also still alive, shoots off Davros' hand, and Orcini kicks away Davros' travel unit, though Bostock is then killed. Takis reveals he brought the grey Daleks to arrest Davros for crimes against the Daleks, intending to restore Tranquil Repose. The grey Daleks, however, do not recognize the regenerated Doctor and take Davros prisoner, who vows to return. The Doctor, Peri, Takis, and Lilt remain, with Orcini still present. The Doctor devises a plan to destroy the hibernating Daleks and introduces the "weed plant" as an alternative protein source. Orcini, seeking an honorable end, decides to detonate his bomb, destroying Davros' new generation of Daleks and sacrificing himself alongside Bostock's body. The Doctor, Peri, Takis, and Lilt escape the collapsing catacombs as Davros' ship departs. The Doctor confirms Orcini's sacrifice was meaningful, having thwarted Davros' immediate threat. The story concludes with the Doctor and Peri leaving Takis and Lilt to implement the new protein solution and rebuild Tranquil Repose, hinting at a future "holiday" after the harrowing events on Necros.
