Act 1

The narrative opens with the Doctor and Mags imprisoned, discussing the Psychic Circus's deadly nature with the Captain. Simultaneously, Ace finds herself cornered by menacing robots in the workshop, where she encounters Bellboy, who apologizes for the robots' malfunction, hinting at his deeper connection to the circus's mechanics. The Doctor, having escaped his captors, investigates the Ticket Office, where he gazes into Morgana's crystal ball. The ball turns red, revealing a sinister eye symbol, prompting the Doctor to realize the situation is rapidly spiraling out of control. He observes Deadbeat, clutching a similar eye pendant, reacting fearfully to the crystal ball, suggesting a profound connection to the mystery. Back in the workshop, Bellboy confides in Ace, explaining his role in creating and maintaining all the circus's robots and clowns, revealing he is indispensable to the operation, even as he yearns for death. He recounts the circus's initial high ideals, which were corrupted. The Doctor later encounters Deadbeat, pressing him for information about the eye and the changes he underwent at the circus. Deadbeat, though largely non-verbal, indicates he will not betray the Doctor, agreeing to lead him. This act establishes the immediate threats, introduces key characters like Bellboy and Deadbeat, and sets the stage for unraveling the circus's dark origins and the power behind the mysterious eye. The Doctor's growing understanding of the eye's influence and Deadbeat's complicity drives the initial mystery.

Act 2

As the Doctor and Ace delve deeper into the circus's secrets, the Captain, still imprisoned, attempts to manipulate the naive Whizzkid into entering the deadly ring, promising him the 'ultimate Psychic Circus experience.' Meanwhile, the Ringmaster and Morgana discuss the Doctor's escape and the intensifying influence of the mysterious eye, which Morgana insists is 'here, now,' demanding more acts. Bellboy, in the workshop, provides Ace with a harrowing account of the circus's transformation from a 'friendly hippy circus' into a lethal trap. He reveals the original members, including Flowerchild, Peacepipe, Juniperberry, and crucially, 'Kingpin,' who Bellboy identifies as Deadbeat. Bellboy explains Kingpin persuaded them to come, but 'something went very wrong,' transforming the circus and its members. The Doctor connects the eye to Flowerchild's earring and the kites, but Bellboy denies knowledge of a 'well with an eye peering out.' Deadbeat, however, warns, 'Don't look in the well. The eye gives you promises of heaven or hell.' The Captain's manipulation culminates as Whizzkid, thrilled to be in the ring, is brutally killed, demonstrating the circus's lethal reality. Witnessing this, the Doctor decides to take Deadbeat, now confirmed as Kingpin, to the well, believing Kingpin can reveal what the eye did to him. Bellboy, disillusioned and weary, refuses to join them, choosing instead to make a final stand against the Clown, sacrificing himself to buy the others time. This act deepens the mystery of the eye, exposes the circus's deadly nature through Whizzkid's demise, and highlights the tragic corruption of its founders, culminating in Bellboy's poignant sacrifice.

Act 3

The narrative accelerates as Bellboy, remaining in the workshop, confronts the Clown, activating robots against him in a desperate act of defiance and self-sacrifice. He challenges the Clown to 'Deal with me as you dealt with Flowerchild,' accepting his fate to aid the Doctor and Ace. Simultaneously, the Doctor, Ace, and Deadbeat (Kingpin) arrive at the Stone Chamber, where Deadbeat collapses near the well after holding out his amulet, confirming its connection to the eye's power and its devastating effect on him. Ace, observing a mirror near the well, makes a critical deduction: it's the missing part of the eye, hidden in the bus where Flowerchild died trying to retrieve it. Elsewhere, Mags and the Captain, still caged, discuss their past, with the Captain reminding Mags of his role in saving her life, hinting at his own hidden agenda. The Doctor, now with a clearer understanding of the situation, returns to the cage. He proposes a daring new strategy to Mags and the Captain: all three will enter the ring together. He explains this collective action will disrupt the circus's usual 'survival of the fittest' dynamic, throwing a 'very big hammer into the works.' Mags immediately agrees, and the Captain, after initial hesitation, is pressured into joining. As the Doctor prepares for his perilous performance, Ace helps Deadbeat/Kingpin escape the circus grounds, tasking him with retrieving the missing eyeball from the bus. This act culminates in Bellboy's heroic sacrifice, the crucial revelation about the eye's physical form and location, and the Doctor's audacious plan to confront the circus's power directly, setting the stage for a climactic showdown.
