Act 1

The Doctor and Ace materialize their TARDIS near a World War II naval base in Dorset, immediately encountering strict military security. The Doctor, through a clever forgery of War Office documents, gains unauthorized access for himself and Ace, allowing them to meet Doctor Judson, who is developing the top-secret Ultima codebreaking machine. Concurrently, a group of Russian spies, led by Sorin, infiltrates the nearby Maidens Point, searching for a mysterious treasure. Their mission is quickly complicated by a malevolent, unseen entity from the sea, which attacks and incapacitates one of their soldiers, Petrossian. The Doctor and Ace begin investigating the strange occurrences, uncovering ancient Viking runes in a local church crypt that speak of a "dark curse" and "stolen treasure." They discover a direct connection between these inscriptions and the Russian spies' objectives when they find Russian orders also mentioning a "treasure" and a "North Way." Further investigation reveals Commander Millington's unsettling obsession with Viking lore and his replica of a German cipher room. The act culminates in a chilling revelation as Millington, reading the full translation of the Viking curse, explicitly names "The Wolves of Fenric" and declares the onset of "the final battle between the gods and the beasts," setting the stage for an epic confrontation with an ancient evil.
