The rubber mask is a critical tool in the Master’s deception, allowing him to impersonate a high-ranking general with convincing authenticity. Worn throughout the interaction with Benton, it reinforces the illusion of authority, ensuring Benton’s compliance. The moment Benton and the soldiers leave, the Master peels it off, symbolically shedding his false identity and revealing his true, malevolent self. The mask’s removal is a visual cue of the Master’s transition from pretender to active antagonist.

Before: Worn securely over the Master’s face, obscuring his true identity and allowing him to pass as a general.
