Its fiberglass and aluminum frame carries the Royal Navy insignia near the bow, while exhaust from its Rolls-Royce Gnome gas turbine sputters wet steam across the decking. Jo Grant throws the throttles forward and the hovercraft lurches away just as Sea Devil soldiers scramble up the beach behind. The craft’s flexible skirt whips salty spray into the air, and Hart fends off reptilian attackers with a submachine gun while the engines roar, propelling the fragile escape route toward open water.
