Object
Nero's Poisoned Goblet (Tigilinus' Drinking)
The ornate goblet at Nero's banqueting hall table holds wine laced with poison by conspirators, intended to assassinate the Emperor. The Doctor bursts in and identifies it as deadly, halting Nero mid-toast to Poppaea. Tigilinus grabs it, drinks deeply to test the claim, then collapses writhing in convulsions, foam at his mouth and blood spilling as the poison ravages him. His death proves the Doctor's warning and shatters the court's complacency, with Nero and Poppaea standing frozen in shock while the goblet's contents spill across the table. Originally intended to kill Barbara (who drinks deeply from one during her toast to Nero), the goblets are swapped by Vicki to spare a slave, redirecting the poison toward Nero.
