Villagers' Execution Pyre

A pyre constructed from stacked bundles of dry faggots around the bound Doctor up to his knees on the Village Green. The villagers, manipulated by Bert (later Thorpe), prepare to burn the Doctor as a witch. The pyre is lit, but the flames are extinguished as the Doctor escapes through staged magic, witnessed by Miss Hawthorne and Sergeant Benton. The pyre serves as the central instrument of the villagers' ritual execution attempt.
