Brigadier reveals IE’s missing persons pattern

The TM-45 transceiver, handed to the Doctor by the Brigadier, is a compact communication device with a 50-mile range on a set frequency. Its purpose is to serve as a lifeline, allowing the Doctor and Jamie to call for UNIT support in case of emergency. The Brigadier’s emphasis on pressing the button to ask for him underscores the fragile alliance between UNIT and the Doctor, as well as the high stakes of their independent investigation. The transceiver becomes a symbol of both trust and vulnerability, as its reliability is later called into question by the discovery of the micro-monolithic circuit inside.
