The Puritan man’s plain cardboard box, loaded onto the farm cart, shifts ominously in the cart bed as it passes closely by the group. Its rough seams and unmarked surface hint at secrecy or urgency, its contents concealed beneath a frayed covering cloth by someone wary of exposure.

The miller’s rutted farm cart serves as both a vehicle and a barrier between the Doctor’s group and the miller’s cooperation. As the miller swings onto the seat and drives the cart forward, it becomes a symbol of resistance, forcing the Doctor and Mace to scatter and effectively cutting off dialogue.

The miller's cart forms part of the wagon's loading space, receiving the sealed boxes of vials from the Headman's hands. Its weathered wooden bed, stained and creaking, becomes the foundation holding the genocidal payload as the final arrangements are made for transport.
