A translucent amber serum contained in a slender, stoppered vial, dianene is the Collector’s genocidal contingency. Its potency requires minute doses—less than a grain to render an entire microbial bloom inert. The Doctor first exposes its existence when prying open the Collector’s filing cabinets, then presents it as Exhibit A in dismantling the oppressor’s economics: it could have bled into the City’s nutrient streams, throttling supply chains and triggering managed scarcity. Leela recoils at its casual mention; Mandrell demands immediate disposal.
