The damaged emergency power cells, rigged in jury-rigged parallel to stretch their dwindling charge, emit sharp spikes of energy whenever the comms device attempts to draw power. Each surge produces a crackling hum and acrid tang of ozone, forcing Turlough to balance the need for transmission against the risk of total system failure that would plunge them back into silence.

Before: Severely depleted, held together by makeshift clamps and stripped cables from prior damage
