Thornington Castle Drawbridge

The heavy wooden drawbridge stretches across a narrow moat encircling Thornington Castle, its thick planks reinforced with iron bands that rattle under pounding hooves. Crank handles and chains sag slightly at one end, evidence of recent use, while the center section remains slightly elevated—an old defense mechanism now fallen into disrepair. The stone bridgehouse on the far side shows cracked mortar where Geoffrey once controlled the mechanism. Turlough forces Sir Geoffrey at sword-point to lower it mid-gallop, the iron gates groaning as they’re dragged upward while rain lashes the courtyard.
