As Tegan and Nyssa reach their jagged threshold, the doors begin their final ponderous slide shut at Mergrave's command, sealing the companions outside with a thunderous finality. Their rough stone surfaces dig into the women's palms, marking both physical resistance and symbolic obstruction.
