The three-handled flask is unearthed from a hidden niche in the tunnel wall after the soldiers hear a humming noise dislodging the enclosing bricks. The soldiers' immediate disposal allows it to remain undetected by proper containment, fueling the curse's unchecked influence.

Ace discovers the ornate Oriental flask in an adjacent chamber and, sensing its malevolence, quickly conceals it in her rucksack instead of revealing it to the Doctor, thus becoming the unwitting custodian of Fenric’s vessel.
