A thick rubber-sheathed metallic lead is clipped by the Doctor into the ventilation controls and then re-routed to the oxygen tank valve, converting a basic conduit into a live power circuit that will ultimately open the oxygen tank as part of the improvised hive trap.

Before: Insulated cable coiled near ventilation junction; unpowered and inert.

After: Energized and taut, transmitting electrical current across the corridor toward the oxygen valve.

Doctor's improvised methane solution

The methane ventilation control lead is manipulated by the Doctor to create a combustible mixture when energized. He clamps it to the methane line junction, overriding safety locks to transmit current through its insulated casing, a critical step in engineering the purge explosion.

Before: A thick, rubber-sheathed metallic cable secured in its normal ventilation role, inactive.
