Opium in Limehouse Den

A dark, viscous paste in a chipped porcelain bowl, glowing faintly in the dim lamplight of the squalid opium den. The air thick with the acrid sweetness of burnt opium, clinging to the lungs of the Doctor and Leela as they press into the den to confront Chang. Its smoke curls lazily from Chang's pipe, used to deaden the agony of his rotting leg—a poor man’s anesthetic in the gangrenous corners of London’s underworld.
