Peri uses it to muffle the impact when Yrcanos and Dorf wrestle over the rations, the cloth resisting tears as it buffers the blows. The fabric’s rough weave abrades Peri’s hands while she pries the rations apart, the same cloth later discarded in a corner as a grimy reminder of their fraying alliance.

Peri forces fragile truce between Yrcanos and Dorf

The coarse container cloth is used both to wrap the flayfish and to muffle blows during the scuffle between Yrcanos and Dorf. Peri physically interposes the cloth and her own body to separate the two, its rough weave absorbing the force of their strikes while it becomes an incidental shield in the conflict.
