The mandrel manifests as a shifting, semi-solid creature of tar-black flesh and jagged chitin, its form flickering between humanoid compactness and an elongated, skeletal sprawl. It moves with jerky, unpredictable strides—too fast for its apparent mass—while its mouth gapes in an unnatural oval that clicks with metallic teeth. When electrocuted, its physiology dissolves into acrid grey ash, revealing the CET projection lattice beneath, a hollow shell concealing Vraxoin within. Dymond unleashes it aboard the Empress Bridge, and Tryst barely halts its fatal strike against Della, his procurement exposing their refusal to abandon the payload even at the cost of crew lives.
