A small control knob, originally an ordinary part of the communication equipment, is repurposed by the attacker to redirect the hyper-frequency signal and broadcast a false Morse distress transmission. Its innocuous appearance allows the assailant to manipulate the liner’s systems without immediate detection, disguising the deception within legitimate operations.

Before: Standard component of the communications console, presumably in neutral or default position within the normal array of control switches

After: Adjusted by the attacker to send the deceptive signal, now serving as the instrument of misdirection and manipulation
