Villagers raise pyres against the Doctor

The pyre wood, collected from Miller's Barn's stalls, loft, and fencing, is snatched in armfuls by the villagers and dumped in reckless heaps outside the barn doors. The wood's splintered ends and resinous bark carry the villagers' sweat and haste, their desperate need to feed the pyres making even split logs and pine laths seem like crucial weapons against sorcery. The faggots shift and topple as they are shoved together, their jagged silhouette rising like a jagged skyline against the twilight.
