Sacrificial Rope Winch

A thick hempen rope winds through a rusted iron winch mounted on the pit’s edge, its frayed fibers stretching taut as masked figures secure their end to the prisoner’s wrists. The winch’s wooden spokes groan as hands turn its crank, the rope slithering downward into the abyss, unseen but for the dim reflection of torchlight on its greasy strands. Jagged sprockets click with each rotation, the sound sharp against the wet exhalations of the jungle.
