Grand Staircase

The broad stone staircase ascends from the space station’s docking bay, its steps worn smooth by centuries of official processions. Cold light from the station’s overhead arc lamps glints off the masonry’s polished surface, accentuating the deep grooves worn by boot-steps of generations of Time Lords. The Doctor climbs with deliberate slowness, each rise taking him closer to the trial chamber doors, his steps hesitant as if the stones themselves carried the weight of Gallifreyan judgment.
