The low-backed metallic settee becomes a perch for the Doctor, who tests its sturdiness with casual body language. Though functionally a prop, it supports the Doctor’s feigned indifference and provides a vantage from which he can observe and steer the interrogation, reflecting the utilitarian design of the spacecraft’s interior.
