Gatherer Camp Noranium Pile

A ragged heap of salvaged noranium ore and scrap—granular chunks, twisted plates, scorched wiring and oxidized flakes—located in the Gatherer camp/junkyard. The pile functions both as scavenged material and, when energized or vaporized, produces a dense grey smoke that was used tactically by Riker to conceal the away team during the ambush and subsequent negotiation.

The pile of noranium functions as an improvised tactical device: targeted and vaporized by phaser fire to create a dense, choking smoke screen that conceals the away team's movement and forces the Gatherers to react defensively.

Before: Sitting as a ragged heap of metallic ore and slag within the Gatherer camp, unlit and exposed near their equipment.

After: Momentarily transformed into a billowing smoke cloud; after sand is poured on it its smoke is smothered and the remaining pile is preserved from complete loss.

Smoke Screen, Return, and the Amnesty Reveal

The pile of noranium is intentionally targeted by Starfleet phasers to vaporize into a dense, choking smoke screen. Functionally it becomes the tactical tool that conceals the team's movement, enabling withdrawal and a staged reappearance that changes the negotiation dynamic.

Before: Cold, inert heap of scrap metal and noranium alloys sitting in the camp near the communal fire ring.

After: Partially vaporized and briefly billowing smoke; subsequently doused with sand by Gatherers so visible smoke dissipates though some material damage has occurred.
