Anastazine (incapacitating agent)

Anastazine — a ship-deployed nonlethal incapacitating agent released as an airborne gas via environmental controls or localized dispersal to flood a compartment (notably Cargo Bay 38). Sensors register concentrations in parts per million (reported up to ~70 ppm during deployment). Bridge officers (Picard, Data, security) monitor dispersion and coordinate containment and assault while exposed targets are temporarily incapacitated.

Purpose

To incapacitate personnel nonlethally by flooding an enclosed space with a measurable gaseous agent, enabling safe capture or neutralization of threats.

Significance

Acts as a tactical turning point and ethical pressure point: used as a morally cautious ambush that shifts battlefield advantage, tests the target's predictability, and heightens tension about whether the target will evade capture.
