Mariposa Cloning Laboratory Doors

A bank/row of heavy, flush hatch panels / industrial steel doors that seal the Mariposa cloning chamber(s). Each leaf/leaf pair features reinforced gaskets, clamp locks and observation ports that fog with condensation; surfaces carry smoke-black streaks, impact dents and scorched access panels. When a hatch or door is forced open, acrid smoke, viscous vapor and a sour sterile tang billow through the gap to reveal half‑formed human replicas. Characters shove past or recoil with weapons drawn; the opening functions as the decisive containment threshold that converts dread into immediate confrontation.

Purpose

To seal and provide controlled access to individual cloning chambers—maintaining environmental containment, allowing technicians to open units for observation or retrieval, and serving as the mechanical interface to the replication apparatus.

Significance

Acts as the story's decisive threshold: opening one converts dread into visceral horror by revealing developing duplicates, prompts Riker's defensive shooting and Pulaski's grim assent, and becomes the focal point for Granger's armed intervention—thereby catalyzing the ethical and physical standoff over bodily autonomy and control of the cloning process.
