Peri-Urban Olive Grove

A compact olive grove clinging to the edge of the hacienda’s cultivated land, its gnarled silver-green trees spaced in deliberate rows across sun-baked soil. The air carries the sharp vegetal scent of crushed olive leaves and the faint sweetness of ripe fruit, mingling with the metallic tang of the nearby crash site. Between the trunks, the ground slopes gently toward the hacienda’s walls, where the terracotta roof tiles glow amber under the late afternoon sun. No breeze stirs through the grove—only the hum of distant aircraft engines and the occasional crunch of dry twigs underfoot. The trees cast long shadows, pooling darkness over a patchwork of sunlit ground, their leaves trembling only when the airplane’s wake pushes through.
