Bathhouse Floor

The worn tiles of a disused bathhouse floor press cold and smooth against Peri’s boots, flecked with mineral deposits that catch the weak light seeping through cracked skylights. Damp lingers in the air, thick with the scent of mildew and old stone, while a single rusted pipe in the corner drips steadily, carving a shallow trench into the cracked ceramic. Beneath a thin layer of grit, the floor slopes slightly where the miner’s collapse has weakened the foundation, the grout between tiles flaking away to reveal dark voids underneath. Shadows pool in the corners where years of neglect have let grime build up, and the tiled surface radiates the chill of the deep tunnels below rather than the bathhouse’s original thermal design. It is a liminal space, caught between industrial decay and forgotten luxury.
