Submarine Base Airlock

Sea Base Secondary Airlock

The secondary airlock serves as a utilitarian pressure door set into the submerged Sea Base’s outer hull, designed for rapid emergency egress during hostile breaches. A wide circular hatch of reinforced durasteel pivots outward with a hiss of hydraulic seals releasing, revealing a short aluminum gangway that drops downward onto the seabed outside. The space inside the airlock lacks the sterile polish of internal corridors, its walls stained by salt corrosion and faint algae streaks that glow under emergency strip lighting. The air remains thick with the damp, machine-scent of recirculated atmosphere, carrying the mingled odors of ozone and rust whenever the outer hatch cycles open. Beyond the airlock’s inner threshold, a set of descending metal rungs embedded in the thick bulkhead offers the only grip for descending further toward the submerged platform below. The pressure plate beneath the hatch triggers a low, continuous groan from stressed metal whenever closed, a constant reminder of the deep ocean’s crushing patience pressing from the other side.
