Loading Bay Catwalk

A narrow metal catwalk suspended above a cavernous loading bay, its riveted steel plates groaning under the weight of hurried footfalls. Fluorescent strips crackle overhead, casting jagged pools of yellow light through a haze of grease and dust motes swirling in the stale breeze that carries the acrid tang of engine exhaust and ozone from recent electrical surges. The walkway tilts slightly underfoot, its worn safety railing cool to the touch despite the oppressive heat radiating from the industrial machinery below. Above, exposed ductwork snakes toward high ceilings layered with decades of grime, while the cavernous space itself is dominated by towering shipping crates whose shadows hide figures moving with the urgency of hunted men. The air hums with the low thrum of failing systems and the occasional metallic clank of equipment straining against the labyrinth’s neglect.
