Settlement Exit Position

The narrow chokepoint between the settlement’s last barricade and the jagged rock face of the canyon wall, a flat stretch of compacted earth where the primary road spills into open terrain. The space is claustrophobically confined by the massive Kroll’s bulk—its glistening segmented hide rising until it blots out the sky and the surrounding mesas disappear into shadow. Crude floodlights anchored to rusted posts cast violent orange pools that recoil from the creature’s dark exoskeleton, leaving the edges of the position swallowed by howling storm gales. Oil drums, abandoned survey gear, and the torn mesh of perimeter fencing litter the ground, all within reach of the Kroll’s lower limbs that twitch with slow, unnatural rhythm. The air smells of ozone, crushed stone, and the rank musk of an animal that dwells deeper than humanity has ever probed.
