Global Chemicals Waste Poison Pool
A fetid subterranean sump carved into the mine’s bedrock, its walls glistening with iridescent chemical runoff that drips in slow, sluggish sheets. The air is thick with the choking reek of solvents and dissolved thaesium, a green-tinged miasma that clings to throat and lung until every breath tastes of oil and rust. Pools of stagnant liquid form uneven puddles that intermittently belch acrid vapors, throwing up halos of sickly fluorescence where the waste interacts with embedded minerals. A network of rusted pipes protrudes from the rock, their joints streaked black with dried deposits, one of them still groaning under pressure from a pump engaged long past its safe lifespan. Jagged stalactites of mineral accretion hang like broken teeth, and the uneven floor is slick with multicolored effluent that crumbles underfoot into a fine, oily dust. The space is narrow enough that light from a single swinging carbide lamp barely reaches its farthest corners, leaving pockets deep enough to hide the creatures’ movement until they strike.
